My Philosophy

My Philosophy

My Philosophy

I believe that many people suffer needlessly because of a broken healthcare system that places too much emphasis on symptoms, rather than the root cause of an illness. It's been my experience that by viewing the body as a whole, integrated system, where every organ and gland work in concert with each other, anyone can help their body heal itself more effectively – especially when supported by a well-trained clinician.

Every individual is different, with unique dietary needs based upon their genetics, lifestyle, age, stress levels, childhood diet, pharmaceutical history, and current state of health. Understanding those differences is a key element of The Whole Journey's approach.

While most nutritional practices dwell on calories, carbs, fats, proteins and restrictive “good and bad” foods, The Whole Journey philosophy provides you with easy-to-use tools to address the primary reason most people fail to thrive. We educate and empower in a way that is flexible and fun, without relying on willpower or self-denial. The result? A healthier life that's achievable, sustainable, and enjoyable.

Our focus works because it is holistic and accounts for all of you.  Not just healthy food, but healthy relationships, healthy movement, a meaningful spiritual practice, an inspiring creative outlet, and an understanding that there can be emotional roots to physical illness.

We don’t mask your problems.  We address them.  If you have a rock in your shoe, is it better to take off your shoe and remove the rock, or take painkillers to mask the discomfort?

By creating a balance between the clinical aspects of health, primary foods, and the foods you eat everyday; you’ll experience steady changes in your health and wellbeing that you’ll be able to maintain for life.

I’m a 100% Italian, Jersey girl, with no shortage of passion and zest for life.  Lucky for me, I discovered my passion for holistic healing in 2003 while taking a year off to backpack around the world.

I was an early caffeine and sugar junkie raised on pizza, pasta, and antibiotics.  A bloated, constipated insomniac with no energy and alternating anxiety and depression, and there was also 15 lbs I just couldn’t shake – which is a lot on my 5’ 5” frame.

What was the root of all of these symptoms?

It was raging Candida, a leaky gut from extensive antibiotic use, and the brewing thyroid and adrenal imbalance I wouldn’t discover for another 8 years. Yet I thought I was “normal” because I was “healthy” by my doctors standards; so I pressed on.

After earning a degree in business from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington, I worked in International Relations for a few years, which inspired me to enroll in graduate school and pursue International Peace and Conflict Resolution.  While awaiting my acceptance to grad school, I decided to pursue a real world education and hit the road to explore our beautiful planet.

This is when my education really began.

My Life Changing Moment

My Life Changing Moment

A bit of a hippy in college, I wanted to join the Peace Corps. I thought money was evil. All I wanted to do was make a difference in the world. But how?

It wasn’t until I was on an all-Muslim African island off the coast of Tanzania that I read a life-changing quote and realized how I could make a difference. The quote was by J. Krishnamurti and said:

Three weeks later, in a tiny South African town, the owner of a local health food store took me to a life-defining workshop called “Optimal Nutrition for The Mind” led by Patrick Holford of the Brain Bio Centre in the UK. Holford described the power of nutrition to transform lives. I was blown away by how much power and control we have over our full experience of life,  influenced mostly by how we choose to address and maintain our physical health.

I put this new knowledge to the test and got off all sugar, caffeine, and refined foods. I limited my alcohol consumption and added in key nutrients specifically for my brain, nervous system, and later my digestive system. I fell in love with yoga, and worked out 5 days a week with joy. Because of an inextinguishable spark of inspiration I acted upon, my life completely transformed from the inside out.

For the first time in my life, I experienced energy all day long, enthusiasm for the little things, a profound sense of peace no matter what was happening around me, great digestion, deep sleep, and I finally lost those pesky 15 lbs, boosting my confidence. I couldn’t have imagined what true health really felt like – I wanted to share it with everyone I knew…including you.

I chose to enroll in the Institute for Integrative Nutrition to become a Holistic Health Counselor, certified by the American Association of Drugless Practitioners. At the same time, I also attended the Natural Healing Institute for Clinical Nutrition and later did additional coursework in microbiology and advanced biochemistry.

I founded The Whole Journey in 2005 on the premise that:

For 8 years I had a by-referral-only practice with a 6-month wait list and worked with 1000+ individuals to help them heal and thrive in a lasting way. We worked on anything from simple life changes, adrenal and thyroid disorders, autoimmune disease to Candida to chronic digestive disorders.

I started to struggle with the guilt that I couldn’t accept all the clients that were referred to me. So in 2012, I made the difficult decision to leave private practice to help more people than was possible in a one-on-one setting.

I also wanted to make a greater contribution to the state of health care and become a voice for protecting and improving the food supply.

That led me to create a weekly TV series on FOX, called Food as Medicine, where I take complicated health topics and break them down in ways that are fun, motivating, and easy to understand. Later, I started the nationally syndicated Randy and Christa Show: News that Makes You Healthier and most recently, I have started my own online show called Food as Medicine TV.

I’ve also had the honor of sharing my work as a guest at TEDX, The Doctors, The Real, SHAPE, NY Post, Redbook, and ESPN.

My Highest Goal

My Highest Goal

I set out to create safe, effective, and affordable online programs utilizing the proven strategies I've developed over the last decade to help people truly get out of sickness and into thriving.

Our programs include the Nutritional Lifestyle Program, Kick Candida for Good, and Gut Thrive in 5, the highly-rated gut microbiome program that’s helped thousands of men and women reset their digestive system and end years – sometimes decades of suffering, and The Adrenal ReCode, a cutting-edge food-based program that restores the adrenals, rejuvenates the thyroid, nourishes the entire nervous system and balances hormones using food alone.

At first I was resistant to taking my business online because I was so turned off by internet marketing and the constant selling that marketers seem to do. It just felt like inauthentic trickery to me.

I quickly realized though that I could actually use the internet for good. Now, having helped over 25,000 individuals truly change and improve their lives with our paid programs, and millions more with our free content, I realize I made the right choice. It would have taken me several lifetimes to help the same number of people working one-on-one.

I’m sharing this with you because my highest goal is to contribute to your wellbeing and to serve you in the way you need to be served to benefit in a lasting way. To guide you, protect you, and to help you advance your life to a higher level.

I encourage you to join our thriving community of over 130,000 subscribers who are also on a crusade to #feelwholeagain. I only stop by your inbox on Tuesdays to share my Food as Medicine episodes and best health, wellness, and personal insights I don't share anywhere else online.

With love and respect for your journey.
